Dear Friends -

Everybody has those days when their limits are pushed way too far; the daily news reported is mostly disgusting… the weather has gone berserk and overwhelmed vast areas of the country with misery… the claustrophobia from the pandemic quarantine has you screaming at the four walls… and surprise, surprise, another politician has been found out to be a liar.  Enough! you want to shout out to the world – turn off all this ugly noise and make life beautiful once again!  Most of us can give ourselves a little pep talk when we get in those gosh-awful moods, for we know how truly blessed we are not to be part of those enduring any tragic misfortune. With the bombardment of all things wrong and immoral in our current society, we must take pro-active measures to maintain tranquility in our lives. The first thing to do is turn off reported news with all of its gory details and refer to printed media where you can scan headlines without reading the specifics… stay abreast of what’s going on in the world without absorbing the current trend of reporters to put their sensational spin on everything.

Keep the atmosphere of home-life on the positive; make your bed each morning and keep the house tidy, and by all means, wear something besides sweatpants… act like company is coming even if they can’t visit right now!  It will all turnaround eventually.  During the time of accomplishing all these material chores to enrich your natural life, don’t forget the spiritual aspect of your existence, take care of your soul.  Start each day with a morning meditation even if it means getting up a little earlier in order to have some quiet time with God Almighty.  Let Him know your thoughts for the day and what you will need His help with… Jesus told us to seek, ask, and it will be given thee.  He also assured us that your Father knows what you need even before you ask Him, but ask anyway!  We can give God absolutely nothing - but our love, and He truly wants that because that tells Him: we believe in Him, we trust Him, we acknowledge a child-like dependency on Him, and that we are most grateful for His love and care.  Randomly choose a Bible passage to think on, and study how it applies to your life, also let it reenter your thoughts throughout the day as it takes root for your instruction.  Start your day with God and keep Him with you in every moment thereafter.

To take pro-active steps for good mental health requires that we store up a treasury of beautiful thoughts, to overpower the harmful intrusive thoughts from stress, hurtful times, and anxiety for the future.  Build up a mental library of beautiful pictures, loving memories, and past thoughts pondered that are on whatever is true, lovely, praiseworthy… so you can Think on these things when devilish despair tries to enter your spirit. Include miraculous images of Jesus calming the storm at sea for the apostles, and know that He can bring to an end your spiritual storms; just as He healed the lame so can He cure your immobility to act; and putting new life into the dead, or curing those deaf, dumb and blind to truth, all prove that nothing is beyond His power to rectify… see all those happenings in your mind’s eye for strength.  Know whatever The Blessed Trinity did in the recorded past can be similarly duplicated for your benefit in present times.   Picture God Almighty turning insecure Moses into a great leader, providing the young shepherd, David, the courage and skill to take down a giant, and see Him as the exuberant Father embracing the Prodigal Son with such love and joy that all He wants to do is celebrate!  Think on these things, and then you will have Peace.  Peace like no other… not as the world gives… but only that which comes from Him.

WORDS TO MAKE YOUR OWN

(Biblical history is repeated worldwide every day; the utterances and acts of the ancients are no different from that which the hearts and minds of peoples today speak or do… learn from history.  What they said or did in their relationship with God could be precisely the same churnings in your own soul, and what God said or did with them may very well be the exact words you need to hear… make them your own.)
