“I have seen the Lord!”

(John 20:18)

Dear Friends –

How anxious and exhilarating it must have been for Mary Magdalene to run looking for the Apostles to tell them on that first Easter Morn long ago, that she had actually seen the risen Lord.  Her heart must have been pounding as she struggled to breathe and run as fast as possible with the good news that was to change the world forever.  When I recently reread those words from the Resurrection accounting, it occurred to me, “that is exactly how I feel when I see Divine Providence acting in my life!” I want to shout from the rooftop with excitement that “I just saw God” do something spectacular for me!  There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the benefit I had just received, was an act of love from Almighty God… my prayer had been answered… the impossible had been done for me, by none other than my Beloved God! Mary saw with her eyes the Jesus of her times, but we present-day Christians see with our hearts the Eternal God of the Universe and of our times, and what a blessing that is which He grants only to His loved ones!  Stunned by the receipt of my heart’s desire, I usually sit mesmerized contemplating not so much the gift, but the Giver!  Images from The Bible flash through my mind of Almighty God ensconced on a Heavenly Throne “upon a sea of glass mingled with fire.  On the throne sat One whose appearance sparkled like jasper and carnelian.  Around the throne was a halo as brilliant as an emerald. From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder. Myriads of myriads of angels and living creatures encircled the throne…”

THAT Supreme Being of the Universe… THAT Creator of Worlds… THAT God The Father in all His splendor… reached down to earth and gave me a personal gigantic demonstration of His love… and there I sit so awe-struck and unable to move except but to savor every morsel of what a delectable treat had just been granted me.  God really loves ME!!  While in this stupor, I can hardly believe what has just happened, BUT, I do believe, and the magnificence of the moment leaves me immobile uttering a continuous Thank You to Almighty God.  How on earth is a non-believer ever going to understand the reality and abilities of our Heavenly Father… but other Christians like myself “see” God all the time in our everyday lives.   My handyman relayed to me his recent experience of God’s love that happened when he reported to a job site to remodel a kitchen. Told by the homeowner to give the microwave away to anybody who needed one, he was overjoyed for he needed one, and he took that arrangement as made by God just for him. He saw God in that moment and told me he “sees” God all the time in his everyday life. A friend, unhappy in her current job, was overjoyed when another friend offered her the job she couldn’t take, and of course, she just knew God, who was the only one who knew of the unhappiness in her current work situation, definitely had a hand in making all that happen.  When you see in the news people coming to the rescue of another, know that is God putting those individuals in the exact spots where they are needed providing the strength, expertise, and courage required to save His loved children.  Non-believers think it is just luck or coincidence, but Christians see the hand of God performing such miracles.

There are those who believe in God but can’t believe that a personal relationship with Him is possible, and to those Agnostics, I have such pity for they are missing out on the most important purpose of life… to know their Heavenly Father and have a relationship with Him.  Perhaps, as evangelists trying to get The Word out to the non-believers, we should do as Mary Magdalene and run through the world shouting, “I have seen the Lord,” and give detailed accountings of our very personal relationships with Him as undeniable proof of His current, active participation in the lives of His beloved. If we showed the reality and activity of the PRESENT DAY GOD often enough, maybe, just maybe, we could finally get the whole world to say, “I see God!”
