“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father,

and with it we curse men…

Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing.

My brothers, this should not be.”

(James 3:9)

Dear Friends –

We live in a time when the rhetoric of everyday life in every class of society has gone beyond vulgar to downright nasty evil.  It is this progressive way of life that disregards religious principals, where growing secularists are enabled to belittle and bully another; there are those who delight in ridiculing and pointing out true or false negatives of another… they denigrate, humiliate and injure someone for their own betterment… and this should not be.

To use false words like a two-edged sword that can annihilate the life of someone, is an act of killing subject to God’s authority. Jesus said on many occasions in one way or another: "The things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile.  For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornications, theft, false witness, slanders.  These are what defile a person.” (Matthew 15:18-20)  Once defiled, a capacity for evil then grows and evolves into corruption aligned only to the devil and in no way resembles The Holy Spirit existing in that individual… a lost blackened soul with a cold sterile heart that continually curses others, cannot praise God with any validity, for that is the definition of hypocrisy. We see hypocrites around us everywhere we look; bullying and cursing one minute and then bending knee in church with feigned devotion.  However easy it may be for their ill-nature to dominate and control by abuse, there is something so respectful about having faith in God, they cannot easily relinquish that last hold on honor and integrity that meanness will never afford them… and so we have fake respectability generated.

Let’s start at the top with the current President of the United States who will be the first to tell you how great he is in all that he does; his enormous ego contends with adversaries by issuing derogatory character remarks against them, often placing an insulting adjective before their first name. This seems to be the standard operating procedure for all politicians in this never-ending election cycle now occurring, where it has become a constant hideous contest to see who can make the nastiest comment about an opponent… so much hatred displayed, daily. These people inundate are children with the worst examples of behavior possible and we wonder why school-age bullying has become such a problem… their bad example teaches our children bad behavior!  All the frustration and anger felt by exasperated gun-toting bullies feeds off these fake respectability examples and so, that wrongly justifies their actions to themselves that expression of discontent is permitted!  And so, domestic abuse and civic terrorism of all types are on the rise because nasty behavior is prevalent and tolerated.

Such nasty behavior is not only tolerated, but it is also applauded and financially profitable for a whole slew of insult comedians who delight in raking celebrities over the coals nightly.  Years ago the snarky insults of Don Rickles started this trend that grew and evolved as all things must do, not into something better, but rather into something worse and disgustingly loathsome.  When Stephen Colbert entered the late-night TV line-up and lagged behind in the polls, his comedy evolved into nasty political insult which he administers by dancing around his stage, like some sort of devilish ghoul, while he stabs someone in the back and then turns and turns the dagger with one insidious remark after the other, all the time hardly able to contain the self-delight for his ability… what a sick mind, heart, and soul this comic has who claims to be Christian… I do not doubt that Almighty God, who sees all, is not laughing at such evil, nor will Stephen be laughing when such continued evil nastiness earns its just reward.  Another insult comic, the worst in my mind for his continued ridicule of Almighty God and all things religious is Bill Maher.  On the recent death of a conservative billionaire businessman, lascivious old Bill spewed forth one vile joke after the other about this man closing with, “I’m glad he’s dead and I hope the end was painful.”  Such intense hatred displayed can only come from a heartless being so consumed with self-aggrandizement, rational thought eludes his reason that should comprehend how heinous his behavior… and yet, there are those in the audience laughing and applauding such atrocity… they are just as sick and soulless as Bill Maher… there must be a special place in hell for the worst of the worthless bullies and all those who admire them.

Parents have such a difficult task in raising children during these times when few examples of honor and integrity are on display for admiration and emulation.  All segments of society are dominated by celebrities, of one kind or another, displaying self-promotion, false, biased, nasty defamation and hateful speech… the devil is certainly influencing the character of these people, not The Holy Spirit. You cannot praise God and curse man, it is one or the other for “no man can serve two masters..."  only hypocrites speak with a forked tongue, and “this should not be.”

HYPOCRISY

The definition of a hypocrite brings to mind falseness, a charlatan, a two-faced liar and fraud who feigns high principles while acting like the lowest scum of the earth.  How do we generate and tolerate such unscrupulous behavior that is so wrong by any ethical thinking?  The main reason is the disintegration of religious values as the standard for acceptable behavior, because when disrespect for God’s edicts takes over an individual or society in general, boundaries are removed and free will does as it pleases, feeling no reprisals because they consider themselves not subject to any enforcement.  But how wrong they are in their thinking, for they will most definitely be subjected to God’s judgment whether they believe that or not, as all good Christians can attest to with certainty that God’s reward or punishment is undeniably predestined.

On many occasions, Christ would get absolutely exasperated with the hypocrisy of the Scribes and Pharisees and He would berate them publicly in no uncertain terms.  “You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth.   Even so, on the outside you appear righteous, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing.  Woe to you hypocrites.”  (Mathew 23:27-29)  Sounds like a pretty harsh critique and condemnation to me!  But if you are unfamiliar with Christ’s judgments and have never been exposed to Biblical pronouncements, then such ignorance will be your downfall for no one can claim lack of knowledge in this day and age. Recently we have had the exposure of the dark side of powerful men who used their positions of power to solicit sexual dominance where undesired, strictly because they could all the while maintaining images of respectability in business and as family men… hypocrites.  Over and over again we have seen salesmen make a pitch that seems to good to be true… they say anything to make a sale as does the whole advertising media at times… and so often receipt of a worthless product teaches a hard lesson that lying hypocrites exist.  Politicians promise change and correction to get elected, but once in office few can keep their word and integrity gives way to duplicity and voters learn not to trust. How sad the disappointment of a child who has a parent who constantly promises one thing or another, then never does it and the child naturally loses faith in that parent with future relationships permanently destroyed by hypocrisy.  Trust in a family or with friends, at work, or in the community is absolutely required for the good life… anything else is a false, unloving relationship to be avoided at all cost.

When you catch someone in the family or in public life telling untruths, reneging on promises, or promoting themselves at the expense of another, by all means, and with the help of Almighty God, call them out on such wrong behavior.  Hypocrisy left unchecked spreads like cancer until it consumes the entire being, and once devoured, looks for another to infuse for camaraderie, for misery needs company.  Our world already has too much duplicity… expose it, chastise it… and help make the world as God intended it to be… a paradise.
